The UA College of Engineering will host its eighth annual Capstone Engineering Society Golf Tournament as a fundraiser for the Capstone Engineering Society on April 24 at the Bent Brook Golf Course in Bessemer.

The tournament will feature prizes from various door prizes and raffles. There will also be a silent auction featuring a Nick Saban-signed football.

"One hole will feature a hole-in-one contest, where you may win a new car from Royal GMC. We will also have plenty of giveaways and door prizes," said Tru Livaudais, CES coordinator.

This event, run by CES and engineering alumni, was started in 2001 by alumni from Birmingham.

"Many of [the alumni] are still members of the CES today, and engineering volunteers serve as members of the committee. That is how we do it today, the Golf Committee does all of the hard work that makes the event possible," Livaudais said.

All proceeds from the event go to CES, which is a support group for the College of Engineering.

"Our mission is to provide a superior educational experience for UA engineering and computer science students," Livaudais said.

Funds go to scholarships, student and faculty honors programs and alumni awards.

Groups or individuals wishing to be sponsors for the event have the opportunity to do so. All sponsors will receive complimentary registration for a team of four and will be recognizes on the tournament's scoreboard and banners.

"We produce the Capstone Engineer, which is the College of Engineering magazine. Our sponsors will be recognized in the fall issue and help to sponsor our Homecoming tent during the football season," Livaudais said.

There will be registration and lunch at 11:30 a.m.

Participants may include UA engineering alumni and students, but the event is open to the public for anyone who wishes to participate.

"Anyone can participate. You don't have to be an alumnus of the engineering school; you can be a current student or friend of the college and still have a great time," Livaudais said.

Usually the event is made up of over 100 engineering alumni that represent several different companies, Livaudais said. He said he encourages current engineering students to also participate as well.

"If you are an engineering student, this presents a great opportunity for you to network and meet some of the other alumni who are working in and around the state of Alabama," Livaudais said.

The cost to participate in the tournament is $125 a player or $500 for a team of four. This registration fee includes green fees, cart, range golf balls, beverages, meals and a souvenir T-shirt.

Individuals or twosomes who wish to participate will be places with another team.
