Today is Better Relations Day with our backwater friends from the southeast, Auburn University.

Even though they have the equivalent of a high school football team and the only bowl they’ll be enjoying is the one of nachos as they watch us play in January, we still join the SGA and the University in our commitment to improving relationships between our two schools. After all, we do allow them to live in our state, and an attempt at better relationships never hurt anyone.

Remember, there’s a lot we can gain from the “cow college,” even if it is just bovine methane management. After all, Auburn does have an entire college dedicated to nothing but agriculture. Their students can even major in poultry science if they want. Sign us up!
Don’t forget this is a two-way street. They can benefit from our vastly superior … well, everything.

Besides the lesson in football we will give them a week from Saturday, we can show them the joys of civilization, such as indoor plumbing, the light bulb and refrigeration in our “futuristic space colony,” as many Tigers refer to Tuscaloosa.

All tongue-in-cheek aside, we do need to improve relations with our friends from Auburn.

There really are great things we can teach each other, and letting bad blood over football stand in the way of that is a disservice to both our Universities.

Even though we may joke with each other, we need to remember to see the bigger picture and remember there is more that unites us than separates us.

So crack open a lukewarm one, Auburn, there is one thing we can all agree on: at least we’re not in Mississippi.
